The Army of Occupation medal was established by War Department General Orders #32 in 1946 for award to members of the Army and Air Force (formerly Army Air Corps) who served for thirty consecutive days at a normal place of duty while assigned to any of the following: (1) Army occupation of Germany between May 5, 1945 and May 5, 1955; (2) Service for which an individual qualified for Berlin airlift device; (3) Army of occupation of Austria between May 9, 1945 and July 27, 1955; (4) Army of occupation of Berlin between May 9, 1945 and a date to be determined.
