These colonial payment receipts were issued by the Controller of the Public Accounts in Hartford, Connecticut and measure approximately 7.5 inches by 3.25 inches. The uncut sheet measures approximately 7.5 inches by 12.25 inches. They were used as receipts of payment of Revolutionary War debt. Many who received these were soldiers who fought at such sites as Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and Lexington. Handwritten, dated and signed, they designate payment in Pounds, Shillings and Pence. Very “colonial” in appearance, they are all dated in the 1790’s. A great collectible issued in the infancy of our country. These are in excellent condition.
