The National Socialist People’s Welfare Organization, or N.S.V., was established in 1933, shortly after the Nazi Party took power in Germany. Headed by Erich Hilgenfeldt, who was appointed by Joseph Goebbels, it became one of the largest Nazi Group Organizations, and by 1939 it was second only to the German Labor Front. During World War II, the N.S.V. was expanded to handle more governmental responsibilities, especially in the areas of child and youth labor.
