This woven multi-colored ribbon was produced by the Thomas Stevens Company of Coventry England in 1887 for incumbent Grover Cleveland’s presidential bid in 1888. Measuring approximately 2.5 x 4”, this ribbon pictures the candidate in black and white along with an eagle, two crossed American flags and a shield colored red, white, blue and gold. Although Cleveland won the popular vote in 1888, his Republican opponent Benjamin Harrison won the electoral vote 233- 168 and thus the election. Four years later (1892) Cleveland defeated Harrison thus becoming the first United States President to serve two non- consecutive terms (1885-1889 and 1893-1897).
