These very large (approx. 15” x 7”) special tax stamps were issued from 1874 to 1885 by the United States Internal Revenue office to dealers, both wholesale and retail, who sold alcohol and tobacco products. Printed by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, they are in very nice condition and include a beautiful vignette. Every stamp also includes the calendar year of issue, the type of business being taxed, the total tax (ranging from $2.40 to $500.00), a printed U.S. Revenue Seal, a serial number, twelve individual monthly coupons, plus a receipt stub. Produced in a variety of different colors to many different business classifications, these Internal Revenue stamps are truly unique. Unused and cancelled, we offer groups as follows.
