Lincoln Memorial Card Featuring Washington
lincoln memorial card washington

The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was one of the last major events of the American Civil War. It took place on April 14, 1865, at the Ford’s Theatre while President Lincoln was attending a performance of “Our American Cousin”. He died on April 15, 1865. Lincoln’s assassin was an actor and Confederate sympathizer named John Wilkes Booth. In an attempt to overthrow the Federal government, Booth had planned to assassinate President Lincoln, Vice President Johnson and Secretary of State Seward. Although Booth succeeded in killing Lincoln, the larger plot failed. Johnson’s potential assassin left Washington without incident, and Seward survived his attacker and recovered from his wounds. As a tribute to the fallen president, we offer a memorial card showing Abraham Lincoln being welcomed into heaven by George Washington. This apotheosis card, measuring approximately 2.5” x 4”, is available in a few different styles. This item was issued shortly after Lincoln’s assassination and is almost 150 years old. It grades XF or better and is in extremely limited supply…
