This commemorative half dollar was issued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts “battles” which preceded the American War of Independence from Britain. The “Minute Men” were summoned to the Lexington-Concord skirmishes to confront the British troops, but were defeated almost immediately. The famed “Minute Man” appears on the obverse, and the Old Belfry in Lexington where a lantern was lit to warn that the British were coming is on the reverse.
