The year is 1856, Franklin Pierce is President, believe it or not, the Vice President is William Rufus De Vane King.  The United States three years earlier had completed the Gadsden Purchase (1853) buying a 45,535 square mile strip of land (now Southernmost Arizona and New Mexico) from Mexico for $10 million.  The Kansas-Nebraska act of 1854 and Ostend Manifesto 1834 were now a part of history.  To keep you abreast of the times, we offer an 8 page newspaper entitled the “New York Daily Times”.  In fairly nice condition and dating January to June 1856, these large 16” x 22” newspapers will keep you up with the happenings in this Pre-Civil War period…
