Theodore Roosevelt: 1912 Election Card
Theodore Roosevelt: 1912 Election Card

The Progressive or “Bull Moose” party is most famous for the election of 1912. Theodore Roosevelt, who was president from 1901-1908, decided he wanted to run again in 1912. His party, the Republicans, decided they would go with Taft, the incumbent, instead of Roosevelt. This infuriated Roosevelt, so in an act of defiance, he bolted from the Republican Party and became a candidate for the Progressive (Bull Moose) Party. We have just purchased a small quantity of election cards promoting Progressive candidates. Printed in Riverside, California, in 1912, for the Roosevelt Republican Club, these nearly century old pieces are a rare find. Don’t miss out on this memento from the election that made political history.
