Russian Liberation Army Cap Badge or Sleeve Shield....

The Russian Liberation Army, known as R.O.A. (in Russian Cyrillic the letters appear as P.O.A.) or the Vlasov Army, was a group of predominantly Russian forces allied with Nazi Germany during World War II.  The R.O.A. was organized by former Red Army General Andrey Vlasov, who attempted to unite all Russians in opposing the regime of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Amidst the volunteers were Soviet prisoners of war and Russian White Army members, some of which fought against communism during the Russian Civil War of 1917.  The R.O.A. did not officially exist until the fall of 1944, after Heinrich Himmler persuaded a reluctant Hitler to permit the formation of ten Russian Liberation Army divisions.  The first and only active combat the Russian Liberation Army undertook against the Red Army was on April 11, 1945.  A victorious Red Army eventually captured General Vlasov and many of his men.  The Soviet government labeled all R.O.A. soldiers as traitors.  Vlasov and several other leaders of the R.O.A. were tried and hanged in Moscow.  Repatriated R.O.A. soldiers were either sentenced to death or sent to a Gulag with a minimum sentence of ten years.  We have just acquired two different items associated with the R.O.A.  The first is a genuine 1.25 inch cap badge worn by Russian soldiers.  This badge was issued in the Ukrainian colors of blue and gold with the trident symbol in the center.  The second item is a genuine sleeve shield for R.O.A. soldiers.  Marking the reality of Russians fighting Russians, these scarce Russian Liberation Army pieces are available.
