American politician Bernard Sanders was born on September 8th, 1941 and has been the Junior United States Senator from Vermont since 2007. He is the longest serving Independent in U.S. Congressional history. Sanders formally announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party’s nomination for president on May 26, 2015. When the primaries began, Bernie Sanders was a definite underdog to Hillary Clinton. However, he gave her quite the run for the money. In the end, Bernie had a delegate count of 1865 to Hillary’s 2842 and he had won 23 contests to Hillary’s 34. His popularity during the primaries was amazing and very concerning for Hillary Clinton.
