The impeachment process against President Bill Clinton was initiated by the House of Representatives on December 19, 1998 on two charges: perjury and obstruction of justice. Two other impeachment articles: a second perjury charge and a charge of abuse of power failed in the House. The Senate trial began on January 7, 1999 and ended on February 12, 1999. A 2/3 vote (67 Senators) was required to remove Clinton from office. When the voting was completed, 55 of 100 Senators voted not guilty on the perjury charge and 50 of 100 Senators voted not guilty on the obstruction of justice charge, and thus President Clinton was acquitted. Only two presidents (Andrew Johnson- 1868 and Bill Clinton - 1999) ever faced impeachment trials and both were found not-guilty.
