These tiny silver coins were used during the reigns of Czar Michael Fedorovich Romanoff (1613-1645), the first Romanoff czar of Russia, and Ivan the Terrible (1533-1584). They were known as “wire money” because they were actually made from silver wire that was flattened at the end and struck with a hammer die. The finished piece was then clipped off and put into circulation in Medieval Russia. We offer two different types of these unique coins:
